What does a typical meeting look like?

Happy family

The S.A.F.E. meeting opens with introductions, prayer and a scripture reading.  In addition, there is an educational presentation that provides information and education materials on a variety of topics that are proven and relevant to families affected by alcohol and addiction issues.  This educational process provides understanding and encouragement as families learn that there are specific phases that recovery takes.  The families learn they can take care of themselves while supporting their loved ones through treatment.

The second half of the S.A.F.E. meeting is a time for open sharing of fears, concerns, troubles and anxieties.  The S.A.F.E.  Coordinators support, encourage and assist family members within the group as they share, in a confidential environment, their struggles with shame, secrecy and isolation. Referrals to other services, peer co-facilitation training and childcare is also provided.

The S.A.F.E. program began in September of 2010, and has added new families each week. Each participant is welcomed with open arms and ears. The meetings have a wonderful feeling of fellowship and support. They have found, in a very short time that the path they are on is one they no longer need to walk alone.  They have developed relationships with one another and deeper relationships with their loved ones in treatment. Ultimately, this will create an opportunity for improved success in completing the treatment program and better quality of life for the entire family.
